ICT4Health

ICT4HEALTH is a project of the Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation. It was established to provide technical assistance to the operationalization of the critical and foundational first year of Nigeria’s recently approved eHealth Strategy.

The eHealth Strategy, developed with support and technical assistance from the ICT4SOML Project, was approved and ratified for use and implementation at the 58th session of the National Council on Health, in March 2016. The strategy provides over-arching guidance and direction to the application of Information and Communication Technologies in healthcare through the national eHealth governance structure.

The national eHealth governance structure will provide direction, guidance and coordination to the standardization of foundational pieces of the Health ICT info-structure required to effectively develop, deploy and sustain eHealth initiatives. These foundational pieces include registries, data formats, and efficient data exchange, amongst others. Specifically, government agencies (MDAs) and partners, including HSDF, would be able to leverage the governance structure, to align their activities with national health system and eHealth priorities and goals.

Our Goals

The ICT4HEALTH project aims to:

  • Strengthen the eHealth governance structure within the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) through the draft National Health ICT Framework.
  • Strengthen the capacity of the FMoH, FMCT and relevant stakeholders on Health ICT standards and interoperability
  • Coordinate activities – led by FMoH – to establish digital health registries and standards to support the establishment of a National Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Our Approach

ICT4HEALTH will provide technical assistance to the FMoH and appropriate stakeholders to build capacity in governance, standards and interoperability.

Results
